The Problem

There it is. There is the problem in a nutshell. Should it get worse, I will simply move to a different city deeper in. For the present, however, I am still able to live in a different world in San Miguel de Allende than the one in which these good people live. Nightline expressed no interest in interviewing me about where and how I live there.

Do they learn the language? Do they socialize with locals? Do they get involved with the community?

Don't surrender the hill just yet, Steve.

I hate to generalize, Bloggerboy, but generalize I will. Based purely on my own observations, I would say that the general run of these prosperous types do not learn the language, live in proximity to each other, and socialize only with each other. There are exceptions to that. Clearly. I do not want to do those exceptions a disservice. But I believe that my general statement is accurate.

This is all good fodder for my jokes about their inability to assimilate.

Because they tend to flock and because they would never go into certain neighborhoods in the city, they are relatively easy to avoid. I do live in a different world than they do, and I admit that I am quite proud of that.
