In the meantime. . . . .

A poem of the same name:

THE SOLIPSIST

You really do not enjoy some separate existence
Other than your existence as informed
By my own sensory perceptions of you,
Which is admittedly a pretty tenuous existence,
But I can’t help that.

I don’t tell you that to make you uncomfortable.
It’s just the way it is. Once you grasp that truth,
Life becomes immensely easier for you to live,
That is, it would make life immensely easier for you to live
If you enjoyed some existence separate from that informed
By my own sensory perceptions of you—
Sensory perceptions of you that are pretty damned hazy currently,
I want to reëmphasize.

More importantly, once I grasped that truth,
Life became immensely easier for me to live.
Before, life was a struggle for me because
I had to deal with you as an entity with some separate existence.
And as an entity with some existence separate from mine,
You had power.

Now you have only the power I give you.

It follows, however, that if you are informed
Only by my perceptions of you
And wield only power that I have given you,
Then I am breaking my own heart.
